Portland Evening Scholars: Credit Recovery

This is a supplemental program. All of their students (with few exceptions) are also attending a day school program while they are taking classes evening classes. Students earn 1/2 credit for each class taken at P.E.S. Each class is held 1 night a week and is 3 hours long. P.E.S. is on a 2 semester schedule.

Summer Scholars - A high school credit recovery and credit advancement program. Summer Scholars is for students currently in grades 9 through 12. It is a tuition-based program for students, including non-PPS students, wanting to retrieve credit, improve a grade, or for advanced credit. Each three-week semester is equivalent to 0.5 credit.

This summer, a Credit for Proficiency pilot program is providing students entering High School with a way to earn class credit for learning outside the classroom, specifically through volunteering. Hands On Greater Portland is working with Ninth Grade Counts and Portland Public Schools to connect students with meaningful summer and fall volunteer opportunities that may lead to credit recovery.

Make up missing credits at PCC that you can apply to your high school diploma, to a PCC degree, or transfer to a university. To get started, see your high school counselor. To enroll, complete the PCC Admissions form either in person or online. Students under 18 will need a letter from a school counselor:

Summer School Incentive
If youth are running short on credits towards graduation, summer can be a great time to make them up. To create an additional motivation, Friends of the Children able to offer an incentive again this summer.

- Youth checks in with school counselor about summer school options and credits needed.
- Register for appropriate classes. FOTC can pay for summer classes for youth who qualify for free or reduced lunch. (See below for options and registration details). If possible, pay registration fee, bring receipt to Louis for reimbursement approval. If not possible, complete a check request prior to registration.
- Once classes are successfully completed, bring transcript showing grades and credits earned to Louis.
- Youth will receive a pre-paid Visa card with $100 for each half credit earned (up to $200 total)
